The fact that you are even reading this suggests that you already know the arguments in favor of ceramic knives. Ceramic knives are harder than steel knives, can be made much sharper than steel knives, hold their edge ten times longer than steel knives, are lighter than steel knives, won’t brown foods, transfer a metallic taste or smell, or rust.

You probably also know the disadvantages of ceramic knives. Unlike steel knives ceramic knives can chip or break so you want to avoid dropping them, tossing them in a sink or kitchen drawer, or arguably even washing them in a dishwasher. (Most ceramic knives come in fitted plastic packing material that can be saved, or you can store them in something like this Kyocera Bamboo 3-Slot Knife Block.) If you actually succeed in dulling a ceramic knife, it will need to be professionally sharpened, though Kyocera is working on an electronic diamond knife sharpener for home use. Unlike steel knives ceramic knives cannot flex without breaking so there can be no such thing as a ceramic boning knife, and you only want to use ceramic knives to cut boneless meats. Finally, although using a proper cutting board is a good idea with fine steel knives, it is an absolute requirement with ceramic knives; using a ceramic knife to cut something on a plate is an absolute no-no.

So the only remaining question is whether to go cheap: Harbor Freight Tools Ceramic 3 Inch Paring Knife or expensive: Kyocera Revolution Series Ceramic 3 1/7 Inch Paring Knife Green Handle, and due to the fortuitous timing of a couple of good sales I can offer an opinion.

Blade: The Harbor Freight blade is double bevel ground while the Kyocera Revolution blade is chisel ground. Along with Kyocera’s claims that its micro-grain ceramic is more dense than its competitors, this should result in a sharper blade, but any difference was too subtle for me to detect. Both knives will be MUCH sharper than any steel knife you are used to, cutting through citrus rinds (and even seeds!) like butter.

Handle: Both the Harbor Freight and Kyocera Revolution have superficially similar ergonomic handles, but I noted a couple of significant differences. In the Harbor Freight the finger guard is part of the handle while in the Kyocera Revolution it is part of the blade. Surprisingly, I found the Kyocera Revolution handle a bit slippery, which in light of the consequences of dropping it is significant. The tackier surface of the Harbor Freight handle provided me with a surer grip.

Sharpening: If you manage to dull your Kyocera Revolution knife, Kyocera will sharpen it in return for shipping and handling; if you manage to dull your Harbor Freight knife, you are on your own.

Price: This obviously varies but in most cases you can expect to pay between twice as much and four times as much for the Kyocera Revolution paring knife as for the Harbor Freight paring knife.

This is the 2nd knife I bought. It’s a great knife with qualifications. The tip broke off of both knives within a relatively short period of time. I thought the 1st knife was perhaps my fault. However, my wife broke the tip on the 2nd and she is much more careful than I am. I have become a fan of ceramic knives, but I think I’ll look for one that is a little sturdier. a pop is too much to pay to keep replacing these knives. This must be a common problem because on Kyocera’s web site they advertise a service to re-grind the tips.

I buy these a gifts. It’s a good way to get family and friends hooked on the light weight and sharpness of these knives. My mother-in-law loves these ceramic knives because of her arthritis. My mom who entertains and cooks often loves them so much she demo’s her gift with guests. My sister-in-law immediately wanted to know if they have larger sizes. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars is because of the size. If you are buying for yourself, buy the two piece set so you don’t have to wish you had both sizes.

The top platform the bowl sits on is not attached to anything, so it does come off easily, especially when trying to pick it up and move it. That won’t BREAK it, again, it’s not attached to anything. It’s just a minor annoyance.

That’s my only real beef with it though. Well that, and my cats lick the bowl after I’ve weighed things in it, so I constantly have to keep washing cat hair out of it.

Otherwise, it’s pretty accurate from what I can tell, small, light, portable, and cute. Allows you the option of taring, so you can use other bowls with it as long as they fit on top of it. Has been a fantastic help- previously, how the heck was I supposed to measure “2 oz of spaghetti” or tell if I’d eating one or two ounces of cheese.

Great little food scale. I use it every day. I love being able to measure food on my plate for each item using the tare button. There is one thing I wish it had. I wish the scale had the ability to change from grams to OZ without having to use the button on the bottom of the scale. The oz to grams button should be on top with the other buttons. Other than that, I like this scale.

I wanted a small, accurate electronic, digital scale for kitchen and miscellaneous uses around the house. This is it: I’m very pleased with the performance and simplicity of use. The small, lightweight size is perfect. I only use it occasionally, but I’m confident it could be used daily and especially by those who really want to track food intake or precise measurement for recipes where units of weight are used instead of volumes. Conversion from liquid to weight can be useful as long as the density of the liquid is known.

I purchased this scale for light duty kitchen use and it worked great the dozen or so times I used it. Unfortunately, a problem then developed with the LCD display and only portions of the numbers would be visible rendering the scale useless.

“No problem”, I thought – it has a great warranty so I’ll just contact Weighmax and get it repaired or replaced. I was finally able to get a return authorization number from them (after a few emails and calls), and I returned the defective unit which they received on March 25. As of early June, I still have not received a repaired/replaced unit, even though on May 5 I was told I would received one “in a few days.” I guess time will tell if I they ever honor their warranty.

Here’s my bottom line: This is a really nice little scale for the money IF you are lucky enough to get one that doesn’t go bad after a few months. Otherwise dealing with the warranty is a bit of a pain in the rear.

This attachment started out as one of my “least used,” since the first time I made home-squeezed OJ, my husband couldn’t stand it. I’m still growing up so it’s hard for me to drink fresh OJ still, so I put this on the shelf and sort of wished I hadn’t gotten it. Well now I love it! It is great for baking because if I buy an extra orange for zest (since we don’t eat oranges – I know, not good), I will juice the fruit and drink the OJ or use the OJ in the recipe itself if it calls for it. Also there is nothing more fun than making a glass of lemonade from leftover lemons that I bought just for the lemon zest. So even a non-homemade-juice-drinking family likes ours gets some good use out of this lovely, easy-to-use, good quality attachment.

I buy limes in bulk and juice a lot at once to make sodas and margaritas. If you’re doing a lot at once, this isn’t the best way to go. Since the reamer is facing toward you instead of up, you have to press hard to get all of the juice out, which gets tiring after a while, and doesn’t get all of the juice. I’m not sure, but it also seems to be putting a lot of stress on the motor from the sound of it.

Works well for lemons and limes. Have not had any liquid running down my hand. I use the KitchenAid metal bowl underneath to catch the juice which works well. No complaints about the strainer. Wish the head of the attachment were metal instead of plastic but otherwise recommend it.

The pan has worked well, as I expected. Next time I need to replace a pan I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another of this brand. I cook as a hobby and as part of my job so I learn which cookware works best for me and this pan has functioned well.

Amazon sent me the wrong item twice! Buyer Beware! – E.P. –
I ordered the Innova Kitchen Basics Stainless Steel 12-Inch fry pan but was sent the Kinetic Kitchen Basics 11 inch fry pan, so I sent it back. Later, I ordered the Innova Fry Pan again and again I got the 11 inch Kinetic fry pan!

Finish was sketchy – Rose – washington state
The finish on the pan was not applied evenly and it looked already worn in some areas. I sent mine back.

Innova Non-stick fry pan – Elly Hoinowski –
Although this pan is Stainless Steel, the handle is not riveted. I can’t comment on longevity just yet.
